Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Challacancha – Soraypampa

Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Challacancha – Soraypampa

  • Pick-up: 5:00 a.m. at the hotel in Cusco.
  • Transport: Bus to Mollepata, then to Challacancha.
  • Start of the hike: 9 km trail to Soraypampa (3900 m.a.s.l.) in 3 hours.
  • Stop at Soraypampa: Lunch and campsite.
  • Hike to Humantay Lake: 5 km (3 hours round trip) to see the glacier and sunset.
  • Accommodation: Camping at Soraypampa.
  • Altitudes: Maximum 3850 m.a.s.l. / Minimum 2850 m.a.s.l.
  • Total distance: 14 km.

Day 2: Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Huayramachay – Chaullay

  • Wake-up call: 5:00 a.m. with coca tea.
  • Ascent to Salkantay Pass: 7 km (4 hours) to 4620 m.a.s.l.
  • Descent: 3 hours to Huayramachay for lunch, then 9 km (3 hours) to Chaullay (2900 m.a.s.l.).
  • Scenery: Views of the cloud forest, orchids, and native plants.
  • Accommodation: Camping at Chaullay.
  • Altitudes: Maximum 4650 m.a.s.l. / Minimum 2900 m.a.s.l.
  • Total distance: 21 km.

Day 3: Chaullay – Collpapampa – Lucmabamba – Santa Teresa

  • Wake-up call: 5:30 a.m. with coca tea.
  • Hike: 16 km (7 hours) along the Salkantay River in dense jungle.
  • Stop at Lucmabamba: Lunch and campsite.
  • Optional activity: Visit the hot springs in Santa Teresa.
  • Accommodation: Camping at Lucmabamba.
  • Altitudes: Maximum 2900 m.a.s.l. / Minimum 2100 m.a.s.l.
  • Total distance: 16 km.

Day 4: Lucmabamba – Llactapata – Hydroelectric – Aguas Calientes

  • Initial activity: Coffee tasting.
  • Hike: 24 km (7 hours) through coffee plantations and Inca trails to Llactapata.
  • Views: Panoramic views of Machu Picchu from the pass.
  • Arrival in Aguas Calientes: Check-in at hotel, dinner, and rest.
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Aguas Calientes.
  • Altitudes: Maximum 2900 m.a.s.l. / Minimum 2040 m.a.s.l.
  • Total distance: 24 km.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

  • Early departure: 3:30 a.m. to take the first bus to Machu Picchu.
  • Guided tour: 2 hours exploring the main ruins.
  • Free time: Optional: Hike Huayna Picchu ($15 additional entrance).
  • Return: Train to Ollantaytambo and bus to Cusco.
  • Accommodation: Transfer to hotel in Cusco.
